Manu's Blogs -

Number 9
Well, well its been a long time since I’ve written
a BLOG. I guess I was waiting for something to happen with the show
before I went mad on the BLOGGING (if that is a verb).
But as I discovered I didn’t have to wait for something to happen with
the show. We had a fantastic adventure anyway, which was a road trip
with two of my best friends eva, and I say eva cause ever just doesn’t
describe it with the certain feeling that it requires.
Anyway it started with being at a loose end really
not knowing where we were gonna go for the holidays, ‘cause we thought
that we would be shooting the programme and the Adam… Oh hold on I need
to introduce him. Adam is another Brother of mine.
I remember my first day at university, in first year acting class. There
we were these new students nervous as hell, not knowing what the syllabus
was gonna throw at us, and we were asked to just sit in a circle in
the movement studio, so we could do some introductions. These were the
people we were gonna be bearing our souls to for the next four years-if
new finished the course in the allotted time. Well somehow Adam and
I just gravitated towards each other, and sat next to each other in
that class, and from that moment on we were inseparable, in fact people
would often ask where the other was if we weren’t together. Then I met
Dan during a play, we did a two-hander (two cast members) together,
and we then became this inseparable trio. That was 12 yrs ago.
What can I say we still are inseparable, in fact Adam’s
gone back to London (he’s an actor in London now), and I miss him already.
He left on Sunday.
Well the inseparables went on a road trip.
It all started with Adam’s flight from London being
delayed, he has an amazing name for the airline that delayed him. O-limp-prick
Arse-ways see if you can work that one out.
So Ad arrived a day late and we were to leave the morning after he arrived,
to go to Cape Town. So we did. He landed, we went past my house he packed
his Road Trip bag and off we went on a road trip to Kaapstad. We hadn’t
seen each other for just under a year so the 13 hour trip went by quite
smoothly. We had 11 months of stories to tell, and we hadn’t been on
a road trip like this since our Varsity days. We often went to Cape
Town just him and Me and the open road, or him me and Dan and the open
road. Yay we were on a road trip!
So we began our little adventure. One of the most
memorable parts of it, was when we drove through a swarm of locusts.
What a marvel of nature! I mean one often sees these swarms in movies
about plagues of Locusts, or one sees them in documentaries etc. But
to drive through a real live swarm…it’s so difficult to describe what
it’s like.
We drove through the swarm, bearing in mind that we
were driving a Golf Cabrio, and decided to turn around and go and have
a look. Photo opportunity! Even the photographs don’t do the sight justice.
So we stopped the car and just stood on the seats of the car heads out
of the top, and we watched and listened. As you watch these millions
of Locusts, you can hear their wings beating. A soft little symphony
of insects, interrupted now and again, by the burst of a car.
Then as we were putting along to C Town, well not
putting but meandering, some psycho decided he’d be clever and play
a bit of tag with us. What he didn’t realize was that Adam had just
finished doing a film with Steven Segal and trained with a Kung Fu master,
and I had just finished doing four months of Kickboxing. The thing is
he probably had gun or he just would never have stopped to get his ass
kicked.
We were greeted by the Mother City at about eleven
at night. She is beautiful at anytome of the day. I sometimes wonder
what I’m doing living in the city, when I can walk on the beach everyday
before or after work. But it’s not just about the beach, it’s about
the beauty and the healthy air. Of course being a Scuba Diver it just
doesn’t make sense not living by the coast.
Next day we fetched Dan from the Bus Station. He’d
been in Plettenberg Bay, on his family’s farm. Beautiful! That was our
next stop after Cape Town.
Just an aside: I’ve just bought Tim Burton’s ‘A Nightmare
Before Christmas’. I can’t wait to see it, so I might cut this short
and return to it tomorrow.
Let’s see if I can resist it for a little while longer.
So where was I… aah yes! C Town!
Now this is a town/city, as much as they like to think
it’s a city, it’s still a town. Beautiful people, beautiful surroundings,
and funky places to party at. What more could you want!
A mansion and a Ferrari…Which are the one downside of
